We are all sinners, the difference is the sinners who God can justify and the sinners who He can't. Who wants to believe in God and who wants to believe in themselves.
John 8:32, 34, 46, 58, 59.
Christianity 101 tid bits, or a few shades lighter
In a garden God put:- Himself. Manwoman. The tree that leads to Godly righteousness. The the tree that leads to self righteousness. And Satan. And this is the truth of God.
When a misguided "preacher" preaches about doing what is right for salvation they are encourage people to produce more self-righteousness {because mankind can't actually produce Godly righteousness } through the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and into law, therefore the curse, power, and punishment of sin.
God's plan for righteousness and salvation is to declare everyone a sinner and start over with grace. Manny people live there lives thinking they can become more like God if they try, instead of the new way of apologising and receiving the forgiveness and power to be able to forget about it. "the power of God unto salvation" Rom 1:16
Law and grace is like fruit in that which ever one you eat, even a nibble, you are partaking of it. You can't dip your tow in the law for that extra "help" toward salvation or righteousness. As Galatians says in 3 "cursed is everyone who does not continue", and 3:1 "oh foolish Galatians... having begun in the spirit are you now being made perfect in the flesh."
Time for coffee and strong cheese.

Believing that God is actually God
"Just believe" Jesus and the apostles used to say, while the pharisees wanted to prove to God how God-like they were. The bastard's preached this disease, and still do today. If someone told me they hated God and Christianity, i'd have to agree that who they think god is and who they think a christian is i also hate. God doesn't care how much you try to twist his arm, or convince Him or trick Him into thinking you are good enough. He wants you to believe in him. Just believe...
"lord, i have done many thins to prove to you how amazing i am. I believe i have reached an outstanding level of humility. I have the knowledge of my good and evil to explain why i should be allowed in heaven where, i would like to continue pointing the finger at others and manipulating you. Since i have achieved so much for you, i demand you consider why it doesn't matter that i believe you are a pathetic, week, insecure, scarred little nervous child who needs to hold my steady hand for reassurance of my power to become like it."
Self-righteous prayer.

The seed is the most important power, it grows and pushes it's way into soft ground. The best thing the ground can do is relax and let God do His work. Being the seed is a slap in God's face, a rejection of his rules and makes you harder, more judgemental, more self-righteous, more into accumulated half truths, the ground, and the Left.

Jesus came not to judge but it's opposite, to set free because judging doesn't work, it puts you deeper on the track of the knowledge of the law and therefore sin, self-righteousness and works.
The two trees
The truth of God is poignant. Like the size of the sun in relation to the rest of the sky, or a key when it comes to opening a door, the truth of God is a key piece of information that is indispensable and can only be received by the humble. In the garden of Edin we had the two trees and schools of thought for mankind to follow. The right and the left, freedom and tyranny, pride and humility. On the left is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that has all the information accept the vital bits, which belongs to the tree on the right, the tree of life. The tree on the left is what the proud heart gravitates toward, accumulated half truths and lies as a way to bring life, and on the right is the simple powerful key truth:- the mustard seed, the cornerstone, the light in the darkness and on a hill, the rock that the builders rejected, the stumbling stone, the sward, Jesus.
The two trees incorporate the physical right and left {politics} and the spiritual right and left {religion}. The same thinking runs through both ideologies from top to bottom. On the political left is the politics of control with the intellectual elite ruling over the ignorant masses through large centralized government power monitoring and intruding into the lives of it's citizens to make an iron fisted social planned better society. On the right is the politics of freedom and small government with less control, lower taxes, and the pursuit of capitalism's ability to distribute power to millions of hardworking individuals rather then one dictator at the top. On the religious left is the intellectual accumulation of knowledge for replacing the power of God with there own. On the right is the simple truth of Jesus.
Believe.

"The" sinner
Jesus tells a story in Mathew18:9 concluding that there are those who say "I'm more holy then others" and those who say "forgive me, the sinner". The truth of God is a light in the darkness, like a seed that grows by itself if the ground is humble and soft. The seed doesn't need any help figuring out it's d.n.a. or where to spread it's roots, and it doesn't need the ground to build roots for it's tree. We try to brighten up the room so the light can come in, but the swearing alcoholic who believes in the seed of truth that God is all powerful is "light in the darkness". The stuck up finger pointing, criticising, judgemental Eviologist is a blob of mud cleaning itself during it's interview with God. During the interview it try to twist God's arm and trick Him into thinking they are very godly. They have received an outstanding level of humility and Godly righteousness and salvation has been there's as well. The Pharisee in the story wanted god to be small and himself not to be the sinner. The tax collector didn't do much to "prove to Jehovah" that he was good. He wanted God to be God though, and to recognize and rightfully need Him. What a heart.
